However, he has the support of his mother but when she dies, he’s left alone with his father who thinks he should give it up. When the community that he lives in, is in an economic crisis because their primary source of income, a sardine cannery, was shut down, Flint decides to try his latest invention, a machine that can turn water into food. But something goes wrong and the machine ends up in the atmosphere. Later it starts raining food. And so the shifty mayor tries to use this as a way to help their community. But when Flint sense something’s wrong with the machine, the mayor convinces him to ignore it. But as Flint predict chaos ensues. (Originally Written by rcs0411 { at } yahoo { dot } com For IMDB.)

Vic’s Review:

For those who’ve read this book or read it to their children, this movie is VERY loosely based on the original story by Judi and Ron Barrett.  They extrapolated the food weather phenomenon and basically made it a story about a 2 people overcoming challenges that life (and mad science) throws at them.

I originally had no interest in watching this at all, but after seeing it, I was pleasantly delighted.  I was amazed that for once I didn’t recognize any of the voices (except for Mr. T… “I pity the fool who don’t recognize my voice!”), and the story had a very likeable quality to it.

I definitely recommend owning this DVD if you have a kid and if you’re a bit older, it’s worth a watch.

My Rating: 6.5 out of 10
